At the Institute for Combustion Engines (VKA) research on all topics concerning the vehicle powertrain is conducted. Core focus is the research on conventional combustion engine: innovative engine designs, efficient combustion processes also, alternative fuels, improvement of the engine mechanics and after-treatment systems. Research on virtual engine, hybrid powertrains, electro-mobility, fuel cells and mechatronics for combustion engines has strongly grown in these last years and will also play an essential role in the future of the Institute.

Continental Corporation is an international automotive supplier, tire manufacturer, and industrial partner with five divisions, Chassis & Safety, Interior, Powertrain, Tires, and ContiTech. The project partner is the organizational unit Engine Systems of the Powertrain division, which develops and produces efficient system solutions for vehicle powertrains to optimize fuel consumption, and reduce CO2 and pollutant emissions.
